9D TURKEY IN A NUTSHELL
DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1 ARRIVAL AT ISTANBUL AIRPORT – RIZE (L/D)
Your arrival at the Istanbul Airport will be followed by a 1.5 hours flight to the Trabzon Airport. Visit the Firtina Valley, a steep-sided valley in the Rize district known for having people who rely on a natural living style. You can take some great photos at the Firtina Valley and River and enjoy the stop at the historical Stone Bridge. Explore the famous Tea Garden and have a photo stop at Zil Castle and Palovit Waterfall, which is surrounded by green forest and vibrant hills. Visit the Ayder Plateau, known for clean air and healing hot springs, before traveling back to Rize and staying there for the night.
DAY 2 RIZE – TRABZON (B/L/D)
Day two starts with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, and a visit to the tea factory, as the Rize district is known for its tea. We will visit Uzungol Lake, located in southern Trabzon. This picturesque lake has become popular among tourists, so you will love it. The day will conclude with a visit to the Soumela Monastery, which is a Greek Orthodox monastery located at an altitude of about 1200 meters. We will stay the night at Trabzon.
DAY 3 TRABZON – ORDU – SAMSUN (B/L/D)
After having breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Trabzon and also the former home of the Turkish leader, Kamala Ataturk, called the Ataturk Pavilion. You will be able to tour the interior and grounds of the house before taking a 2.5-hour drive to Ordu. In Ordu, you will get to enjoy a beautiful view from Boztepe Hill and reach the hill via cable car. We will travel to Samsun, a major Black Sea Port, from Ordu and stay the night there.
DAY 4 SAMSUN – AMASYA – CAPPADOCIA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will drive to Amasya, the capital of the Amasya Province, which is known for beautiful mountains overlooking the sea. You will get to take great pictures at the Yesilirmak River, Amasya Castle, and the Riverside Ottoman Houses. Explore the King Rock Tombs, which are rock-carved tombs of varying sizes and date as back as 266 BC. The day will end by traveling to Cappadocia and staying the night at a hotel in Cappadocia.
DAY 5 CAPPADOCIA (B/L/D)
If you want to enjoy a tour of the entire Cappadocia by air, you can take an early morning hot air balloon tour. We will also visit the carpet factory to see how the industry works and why Turkey is famous for supplying world-class carpets. Visiting the multi-level Underground City is definitely the highlight of this day as it is one of the largest underground cities that can hold up to 20,000 people, along with various animals. You will also get to see a variety of rock formations at the Derbent Valley and explore the Avanos, the pottery hub. We will take great pictures at Goreme Town, which has historical Uchisar Citadel and Pigeon Valley and conclude the day by visiting the Turquoise Factory and staying the night at Cappadocia.
DAY 6 CAPPADOCIA – KONYA – PAMUKKALE (B/L/D)
Day 6 starts with a drive to Konya within 3.5 hours and an attractive photo stop at one of the largest caravanserais – Seljukian Caravanserai “Sultanhani”.You will also get to take pictures at the Mevlana Museum, which is the mausoleum of Rumi and has many of his belongings. We will travel to Pamukkale and stay there overnight.
DAY 7 PAMUKKALE – KUSADASI (B/L/D)
After having breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the Hierapolis Ancient City. The remains of the city are located throughout modern-day Pamukkale. You will also get to explore the Cotton Castle and renowned Cleopatra’s Ancient Pool in the Hierapolis-Pamukkale Complex. Take great pictures at the pool and visit the textile factory outlet before driving to Selcuk, which is famous for the Ephesus Ancient – Greek Roman City. Explore the Ancient City, have a shopping at leather factory outlet and stay overnight at Kusadasi.
DAY 8 KUSADASI – ISTANBUL (B/L/D)
You will have a memorable time in Bursa as it has many popular tourist attractions like the Grand Mosque, Turkish Delight Shop, Silk Bazaar, and Green Mosque. You will get to see all of these locations and take pictures before traveling to Istanbul through the Osman Gazi Bridge, the fourth-longest suspension bridge in the world. We will stay the night in Istanbul.
DAY 9 ISTANBUL (B/L)
Sightseeing through the Bosphorus Cruise is an integral part of Istanbul and tourism. You will get to visit the famous square of Istanbul, also known as The Hippodrome of Constantinople. We will also visit historical and religious sites like the Blue Mosque, which was constructed in 1619, and the Hagia Sophia Mosque. At Topkapi Palace, you will see numerous holy relics like The Staff of Moses and the belongings of Prophet Muhammad. Enjoy the free time for shopping at the Grand Bazaar before transferring to airport.
